1937 Royal Coronation china trio in original box George VI tea cup saucer plate
Vintage souvenir of the coronation of Their Majesties King George the Sixth and Queen Elizabeth (the mother of Queen Elizabeth the Second) in 1937.
Consists of a tea plate (6.75 inches square approx), and a cup and saucer, all with nice patriotic pictures on, as shown. Unusually, this set is still in the original box. Weight 620g.
Condition: Old 1930s souvenir china, which has clearly been used rather than just being kept in the box, and isn't in perfect condition. The plate and saucer are in good condition, but the cup and the box have suffered. The rims of the china are slightly rough - it's hard to know if they were made this way, or if it's the result of use. There is a crack in the outside surface of the cup, as shown in the close-up photograph. This doesn't appear to go all the way through, but the cup is certainly not suitable to be used any more. The box is stained and scuffed, and the lid is squashed and has split round the top edge. There is an old sticky-tape repair in the lid, as you can see.
