Art Silk Braid black elastic Green Crescent vintage 6-cord c 1930s 1940s 1950s
Vintage black elastic.
Artificial Silk Braid.
6 cord (3/16 inch 4.5 mm approx).
Green Crescent brand.
The weight is 170g including the card.
Made by Olney Amsden & Sons Ltd.
The label says:
THIS ELASTIC CAN BE WASHED IN BOILING WATER
CRESCENT QUALITY REGISTERED
ART. SILK BRAID ELASTIC
12 CORD WARRANTED
MADE IN ENGLAND.
This elastic is unsold shop stock, on its original card.
The card is labelled with the re-ordering details and the maker's address:
OLNEY AMSDEN & SONS LTD.
71 LITTLE BRITAIN, E.C.1
I am not sure of the date it was made.
Art. Silk elastic seems to have been in use in the 1920s and 1930s, but this elastic seems in very good condition, so perhaps it was made a little later?
Olney Amsden were at Little Britain until the mid-1950s (and possibly later).
The original price sticker on the card seems to have been removed, and replaced with the "New Decimal" price, presumably in 1971 - this was £0.04.
This is an opened pack of elastic. It is unsold shop stock, and presumably is partly used.
It is probably around half a century old, and is sold purely for historical interest.
Although it seems to be in very good condition, I don't suppose it would last very long in normal use, and I certainly wouldn't recommend boiling it!
I have not measured how much elastic is left on the card.
"72 yds" is hand-written on the paper label, but this was presumably when the pack was full.
