Vintage square end tie red and white stripes Edwardian Deco FOUR IN HAND short
A real old English vintage "four in hand" tubular knit square end tie by Ariel. Never used. Probably made well before the Second World War.
Square end style revived later by the post-war "Teddy boys" - but these are CONSIDERABLY shorter than modern ties. They were designed to be worn with a simple "four in hand" knot, or just crossed over and pinned in place. The central neckband is narrower than the main part of the tie, and offset, so one "end" is longer than the other. The fabric appears to be "art silk" (artificial silk), but there are of course no labels so I cannot be sure.
