Wool lined LISLE short socks Real vintage 1950s brown school uniform UNUSED

One pair of traditional brown lisle ankle socks.
Vintage early 1950s.
Made in England, shortly after the end of clothes rationing.
As you can see, these socks have never been worn.
They are still clipped together as a pair, with the original shop price label on, and various prices and "sale prices" - the lowest appears to be 1/6 (one shilling and sixpence).
They were unsold shop stock from the early 1950s, and have been in storage at the shop ever since.
They are brown, but as you can see, they are not all from the same batch - some are darker brown than others.
These socks are marked in traditional SOCK sizes (based on the length of the foot in inches), which is NOT the same as shoe size.
Here is a guide to help you choose the right size.
  • Sock size 9"......................UK shoe size 4 (adult)
  • Sock size 8 1/2"...............UK shoe size 2 1/2 - 3 (older children or small adults)
Please remember that these are very old socks.
They were made 60 years ago, during a time of post-war austerity, and they were designed to be practical and affordable rather than comfortable or beautiful.
They had a reputation for being hard-wearing, and some people found them itchy.
Unused, and clipped together as a pair with the original metal clips.
These socks are 60 years old, and they need to be handled with care.
There is no visible damage, but they aren't very stretchy any more.
If you wish to wear them, they will need to be hand-washed first.
There is no damage visible, but there may be some faint marks from storage.
The metal clips have rusted, and if you want to remove them, they may leave rust spots on the socks.
